On May 26, 2014, the fourth meeting of the State Committee that coordinates the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place in the Sport and Concert Complex after Karen Demirchyan headed by the President of RA Serzh Sargsyan. Besides the State Committee members there were also representatives of various regional committees from different communities, experts, representatives of diplomatic missions of the Republic of Armenia, the leaders of the Armenian Apostolic Church as well as other members of clergy.
Serzh Sargsyan presented all the preparatory and organizational works having been done within three years in the frame of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, upcoming projects in the Republic of Armenia, in Artsakh, as well as in different countries. In his opening speech the president noted that the purpose of this coordinated work is the recognition and condemnation of the horrible pages of human history. “As a nation that survived genocide we have a mission to prevent the repetition of such disasters. On the eve of the 100th anniversary this is a call to all countries, the international community to recognize and condemn such an unprecedented crime"- emphasized the president of the Republic of Armenia. The symbol of the 100th anniversary, Forget Me Not, that was created by the working group organized by the State Committee was presented to those presents. The etymology of the name of this flower expresses the same meaning-"Remember" in different languages. This is the main message of the event. The choice of the symbol by the working group is due to that fact that the colors of the flower are associated with the motives of the event and, ultimately, Forget Me Not symbolized the presence of God in the Middle Ages. Five petals of the flower symbolize the five continents where the survivors of the genocide found their shelter being deprived of the opportunity to live in their homeland. The flower has four basic color components, purple, mauve, yellow and black. Each of them has its meaning: Black color symbolizes the horrors and the memory of the Genocide. The inner radial mauve means that everybody shares the same sorrow. The dominant color of the symbol is purple. It is widely spread among the clothing elements of the Armenian Apostolic Church monks. Yellow color symbolizes sunlight in the form of 12 bowed pillars arranged in a circular form in Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.
