On the evening of August 24, 2017, during an official ceremony, the governor of the US state of Iowa, Kim Reynolds signed a declaration through which she recognizes the Armenian Genocide and declares October 2017 a month of Armenian awareness.

Representatives of the Armenian clergy, members of the Armenian National Committee of Eastern America, Armen Sahakyan and Arthur Martirosyan, a few representatives of the Armenian community were present at the mentioned ceremony. Iowa became the 47th province that recognized the Armenian Genocide.
