On November 6, 2017, the US state of Indiana governor Eric J. Holcomb issued a proclamation memorializing the planned annihilation of the Ottoman Empire to the Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians. Governor Holcomb invited the citizens of Indiana to “duly note this occasion” and declared November 6-12, 2017 as “Armenia Awareness Week”.

The Armenian National Committee of America, the Iraqi Council of Christians and other non-governmental organizations welcomed the statement of the governor.
Thus, Indiana became the 48th US state that recognized the Armenian Genocide. Alabama and Mississippi are the only US states that have not officially recognized the Armenian Genocide yet.
